10th International CitizED Conference

Registration is now open for the 10th International CitizED Conference which is due to be held on 17-19 July 2014 at The University of Birmingham, UK, under the theme: Conference theme: Raising standards in citizenship education: ideas, ideals and issues from around the world.

The conference will focus on the contributions to enhancing educational standards within citizenship education and also from citizenship education to other educational contexts. Proposals that explore matters from qualitative and/or quantitative studies are welcome. Abstracts in english of no more than 200 words in Word format ned to be sent to jubileecentrepapers@contacts.bham.ac.uk on or before Friday 28 March 2014.

CiCeA Citizenship Teaching and Learning Journal: Call for Guest Edited Special Issues

The journal of our sister association, CiCeA has announced a call for a special issue. CTL (Citizenship Teaching and Learning) publishes three issues a year with one of those a special issue dedicated to an important theme or subject in citizenship education.  Brief proposals (2-4 pages) for special issues are welcome. These should include proposed guest editors, a description of the themes or subjects to be addressed, some sense of why they are important to civic education, a plan to secure quality submissions either through invitation to particular authors or a more general call for submissions, a schedule with proposed due dates from call to final submissions, and an outline of how the peer review process will be managed. Please send proposals to Alan Sears at asears@unb.ca.

Index Education project conference

Nanny Harstmar, CiCe Executive member and the CiCeA President took part in the Index Education project conference this week, where she presented a number of seminars about Citizenship Education and CiCe/CiCea. This is part of the Index Design to Improve Life project which some of you may have encounter at the York conference where they presented a workshop. INDEX, based in Denmark,  promotes the application of design and design processes to improve vital areas of people’s lives worldwide. A very successful 15th CiCe / CiCe A Conference in Lisbon

The CiCe team would like to thank all the delegates, presenters, organizers and the team at University of Lisbon for making this year's conference such an especial event. This year's CiCe and CiCeA conference, which saw us celebrate the 15th anniversary of the CiCe Network was hosted by the Institute of Education, University of Lisbon, Portugal. Our special thanks are to Florbela de Sousa and the team at University of Lisbon that worked tirelessly to make all aspects of the conference run smoothly.

At the same time, the Research Student Conference and Doctoral Workshop brought together over 19 students from 9 different countries to work and reflect on the current research in the humanities, psychology, social sciences and education. CiCe Bulletin

As you know the CiCe newsletter is now incorporated into the CiCe Association newsletter which comes out bimonthly.However, the newsletter is not an appropriate tool to disseminate practical Network information. At present such information is communicated via e-mail but for ease of access we have decided to also periodically send out an information sheet, this being the first of such, which we will also be available in the Member’s area / Partners of the website.

CiCe 5 Working Groups and Executive Committee announced

We have a Working Group for each strand of the Network activity and their members are selected by the Executive Committee from a pool of volunteers, on the basis of specific expertise for the task and in consideration of including members from different geographical regions of Europe. Please see here for a list of the new CiCe 5 Working group members and details of future vacancies. Invitations to join new Working Groups are published in our bi-monthly Newsletter.
