Diabetes Research Service User Involvement

This is a highly innovative and successful Project, focussing on Standard 3 of the Diabetes National Service Framework to improve Service User involvement. The work was commissioned by the National Diabetes Support Team and funded by the Department of Health funded £300K: it was delivered by a team from the Centre in partnership with team from Diabetes UK. The Centre team included Professor Eileen O’Keefe, Christine Hogg, Dr Ruth Stern and Jo Skinner

This project ran from November 2006 and has concluded successfully and the final report has been submitted to the Department of Health and the products are on the NDST website.

Key outcomes of the Project:

  • Setting up a service user reference group to provide strategic guidance to the National Diabetes Support Team
  • A toolkit of guidance and training materials for PCT staff and service users and relevant organisations (see our publications section)
  • A national training programme to cascade the use of the toolkit materials
