Irish Writers in London Summer School 2012

14 JUNE - 20 JULY 2012

First established in 1996, the summer school runs for two nights a week for five weeks and provides an informal but informative setting for students wishing to study Irish literature over the summer. Each week a set text is discussed in class on Tuesday evening and the following Thursday, the author reads and/or speaks about it to students.

Guests Writers

•    author and journalist Aifric Campbell who will be talking about her new novel On the Floor which has been long-listed for the 2012 Orange Prize
•    dramatist Darren Murphy who will be discussing his play Irish Blood, English Heart a powerful drama about father-son relationships in a London Irish family
•    novelist and short-story writer Moy McCrory who returns to the Summer School after sixteen years to discuss her latest work
•    journalist Anna May Mangan who will be talking about her memoir Me and Mine which recounts the trials and tribulations of an Irish family in post-war London
•    second-generation Irish poet Kevin Raymond who will be reading and discussing a selection of his work from the last ten years

N.B. This is not a creative writing course, but will complement such a course of study at
London Metropolitan University or elsewhere.

No prior qualifications are required to attend
