INSTITUTE FOR POLICY STUDIES IN EDUCATION
Research and analysis in Education with a commitment to social justice.

The Institute for Policy Studies in Education (IPSE) is a groundbreaking research institute with a unique focus on education and social justice.

The impact of our Educational research has been very highly rated in the recent Research Excellence Framework (REF) - higher than any other post-92 university, with 40% rated 'world-leading' (4*) and 60% as 'internationally excellent'.

Over England as a whole, London Met’s Education research is joint 12th for impact (sharing the spot with the University of Manchester). It outranks Russell Group universities such as Exeter, Birmingham and Warwick in this regard. Overall, over half of our Education submission to REF 2014 was rated as World Leading or Internationally Excellent.

This fulfils both the University's mission - education that makes a difference - and was the founding leitmotif of the Institute for Policy Studies in Education (IPSE) when it was set up by the University 14 years ago - to carry out research on educational policies that impacted on equality and social change.

General Election 2015: Setting the Education Agenda for the Next Parliament

A lively debate took place at this forth event in the IPSE Dialogues series designed to bring together politicians, academics, teachers, students, parents and other interested parties in a discussion of current 'hot topics' in education.

The coalition government and opposition parties were represented amongst the panel of speakers alongside Professor Diane Reay, a professor in education at the University of Cambridge and previously a professor in IPSE. The debate ranged from discussions about early years through to schooling, vocational and higher education and included concerns around professional qualifications, social mobility, mixed ability teaching, selection and the inequalities that continue to permeate the education system.
